Everyday Food Storage Guide
Simple storage habits for fresher ingredients, safer leftovers, and less food waste.
Store for temperature and airflow
Keep dry goods in sealed containers away from heat and moisture. Refrigerate perishable foods quickly and avoid overpacking the fridge, because cold air needs room to circulate.
Read labels and use your senses, but never taste food you suspect has spoiled. When in doubt, throw it out.
- Keep raw meat below ready-to-eat food.
- Date leftovers when putting them away.
- Use clean utensils when serving from shared containers.
Handle leftovers carefully
Cool cooked meals quickly in shallow containers and refrigerate them within two hours. Reheat only the portion you plan to eat and heat it thoroughly. This keeps meals safer and avoids repeated cooling and reheating.
Freeze with a plan
Freeze soup, curry, cooked beans, and sauces in portions that match how you eat. Leave space for liquids to expand, label containers, and defrost food in the fridge whenever possible.
